Our story

Wren started with a name I'd been living for a decade

Wrist Enthusiast since2015 Swiss madeDesigned in New York City

Before the watch

Before Wren was a watch, it was a habit

In 2015 I opened an Instagram account called Wrist Enthusiast and started posting about watches, and I never really stopped.

Back then I was a litigation attorney in New York City. I spent twelve years practicing, at big firms and small ones. I was good at it. I also spent a lot of those years quietly obsessed with watches: reading about them, saving for them, learning why one felt right on the wrist and another didn't. Wrist Enthusiast was where that obsession went. It was a place to talk with people who cared about the same small, strange, wonderful things I did.

It grew. What began as an Instagram account became a blog in 2021, then a YouTube channel and a podcast in 2023. Somewhere in there it stopped being a hobby and became the thing I actually wanted to do. I'd spent more than a decade making arguments on behalf of other people. I wanted to make something of my own.

The apprenticeship

Reviewing hundreds of watches taught me exactly what I wanted mine to be

Here's the part I didn't expect. Years of reviewing other people's watches turned out to be an apprenticeship. When you handle that many, when your job is to notice what a brand got right and what it settled for, you develop opinions. Strong ones. About case thickness, about how a bezel should feel under your thumb, about the difference between a watch that's designed and a watch that's merely assembled.

I kept running into the same frustration. So many watches were almost. Almost the right size. Almost thin enough. Great movement, disappointing bracelet. Beautiful dial, wears like a hockey puck. I'd finish a review thinking, I know what I'd change.

Wren is WRist ENthusiast, and also a small, unshowy bird I've always liked. It was me finally answering that frustration. Not a watch designed by committee or reverse engineered from a spec sheet, but the watch I'd been describing in my own reviews for years. An everyday watch, for everyday enthusiasts, made by an enthusiast who'd handled enough of them to be picky.

The first one

The Diver One was harder than I thought

It took the better part of a year. In 2024 we released the Diver One Aqua, a Swiss made automatic dive watch with a showstopper aqua dial, vintage in feeling and modern in the ways that matter.

People responded to it in a way that told me I wasn't the only one who'd been waiting for that watch. The Aqua sold out. So did the Snow and the Sand. We built on it: the Diver One in titanium, lighter and slimmer, then the Diver 38, smaller and thinner and more refined. Along the way we made watches with Ben Cook of Ben's Watches, the Magma and the Obsidian, that sold faster than anything we'd done.

Every one of them was the same exercise. Take the thing I'd complained about as a reviewer, and refuse to ship it.

The Standard

What Wren is, and what it isn't

Wren is Swiss made, assembled in Switzerland with Swiss movements, and designed in New York City. Every Wren so far has been a dive watch rated to 200 metres, built to actually be worn. To swim in, to knock around, to put on in the morning and forget about until someone asks.

We use standard Swiss movements on purpose, so that any competent watchmaker can service your watch for decades, with or without us. We put both a bracelet and a strap in the box, because you shouldn't have to pay twice to wear your watch two ways.

We're small, and independent, and I still answer a lot of the emails. I think that's a feature. When you buy a Wren you're buying from the person whose name is on the story page, who came to this from the same side of the glass display case you did.

What's next

For two years Wren has meant dive watches

That's about to change. It is the biggest step this brand has taken, and when it is ready, this is where you will read about it first.

I spent twelve years arguing other people's cases. Wren is me making my own. Thanks for being here for it.
